Mel McCrea, AMFT

Associate Marriage & Family Therapist

Intake Coordinator

Care, Respect & Freedom

Mel holds therapy as a human relationship based on care, respect, and remembering our freedom. She grew up in Oakland and has worked as a grant writer, job search counselor, and ESL teacher at non-profit organizations focused on immigrant rights, refugee services, youth mentorship, and environmental advocacy. She has supported organizational equity and justice initiatives, served as chair and contract negotiator for a staff union, and participated in organizing and lobbying in support of environmental justice and prison abolition. As a therapist, she draws on the principles and practices of depth and liberation psychologies, feminist multicultural counseling, mindfulness, and earth-based spirituality. She brings curiosity and gentleness to the truth of our experience – be it grief, anger, shame, or delight.

In her role as Intake Coordinator, Mel enjoys being the first point of contact for new clients. She responds to web and email inquiries, answers questions about logistics and services, supports clients in finding the best therapeutic match within our clinical team, and provides a warm handoff to a therapist or an external referral. If you have questions or curiosities about working with DOT Center, please do reach out!
